Samuel Eto’o, a Cameroonian footballer, has declared his candidacy for the leadership of the country’s football federation, promising to be the “next president despite the cheating.”

On Wednesday, November 17, Eto’o, a four-time African footballer of the year, submitted his bid at the Cameroonian federation’s headquarters in Yaounde, accompanied by a crowd of supporters.

“I want the opponent to exercise caution because we have accepted a lot,” Eto’o told reporters.

The current leadership had offered the 40-year-old ex-Barcelona and Inter Milan striker a position as vice-president, which he initially rejected.

“Despite all the cheating, I will be the next president of the federation,” he declared.

In September, Eto’o announced his intention to run for FA president.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport annulled Seidou Mbombo Njoya’s election in the 2018 elections in January.
